It's a blessing things didn't always turn out the way I wanted to at the time. In the process of my clearing out etc I came across some old diaries, covering the period from when I was 17 to when I was 27.  I looked up today's date in one of them and was in the middle of my first heart break.  So glad I didn't win him back!
